Baton Rouge Business Report honored Benny Alford with a place in the Business Hall of Fame.

Alford, 80, still works passionately on the business that has been his focus since the 1960s. Benny’s Car Wash was founded in 1951 and it has since grown to include nine washes servicing Baton Rouge, with two more locations planned.

Alford’s place in the Business Hall of Fame is well deserved. Since taking control of his father’s business, he has led Benny’s Car Wash to veritable success. Most famously, Alford helped pioneer the concept of the express car wash, now considered the standard for automated full-service washing. It was first launched in 2001, and subsequently garnered attention from industry professionals around the world.

Speaking to The Greater Baton Rouge Business Report, Alford said, “I never wanted to be the biggest car wash. I wanted to be the best-run car wash.” This sentiment thrives today with the company’s guiding principles: “Cheaper, Faster, Better!”

Benny’s Car Wash continues to focus on the fine details that will turn customers into loyal members. It is still a family-owned enterprise, now operated by Alford’s sons and granddaughter, and it employs nearly 500 individuals. In an ever-evolving industry, Alford has built a brand that values change, innovation, customer service and, fittingly, bettering the community in which it operates.
