Citing his extensive retail management experience and working with customers in a high traffic environment, Stephen Craig II has been hired as General Manager for Kim Supply, the car wash division of automotive aftermarket provider Service Champ. He reports to Dave Everett, VP of Car Wash and National Sales & Training Director.
Craig joins Kim Supply after a 16-year run in the Kansas City market with Bed Bath & Beyond. He most recently served as Assistant Store Manager for the high profile retailer after earning several promotions, from department and salesforce manager positions to operations. Moving from store to store in the district, he helped elevate standards and analyzed trends to order merchandise and maximize sales. Craig also had direct interaction with hiring and training, traits that led Kim Supply to hiring him.
“His management experience with a major company like Bed Bath & Beyond was very impressive. So was his 20+ years of experience in the retail world,” said Mr. Everett. “Stephen’s ability to interact with customers, coupled with his inventory and employee management skills, also factored into the decision to bring him on board as our General Manager.”
For over 50 years, Kim Supply has served as a distributor to the car wash industry. Craig will be responsible for the operations side of the business, managing car wash, counter and repair shop sales as well as overseeing the warehouse. He believes his retail experience will pay dividends.
“At Bed Bath & Beyond, you ran the store as if it was your name on the store. I’m treating Kim Supply the same way,” he indicated. “Our customers come first. When they are taken care of, they grow and so do we. I learned a term during my time at BBB – ‘Build relationships to build the business’ – and we will build relationships with customers so they know they can count on us.”
Although he is new to the car wash business, Craig said he’s not new to running a business built around customer service and has several objectives he wants to accomplish this year.
“I’m working with a seasoned team of veterans who each have 20 or more years of experience, so I’m pretty lucky,” he said. “One of the first things to do will be moving into a new facility that has more room for us to expand. That should happen in the next few months. And I want to help my staff grow the business so we are the first place customers think of when they need car wash and pressure wash supplies.”
